About Me
David P. Stonko, MD, MS
David is a clinical fellow in Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Prior to fellowship, David completed 7 years of general surgery residency at Hopkins, including a 2 year postdoctoral fellowship split between the Mayo Clinic and the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland focused on endovascular innovation. Before residency, David attended Vanderbilt University School of Medicine after obtaining a master’s degree in applied mathematics, with a focus on mathematical biology, AI/ML and mathematical statistics.
David has published over 130 research articles and book chapters and has presented at numerous national and international conferences. His clinical research interest is in using AI, machine learning, and outcome science to improve the care of surgical patients. David is currently working on developing a new mathematical architecture to anatomically constrain neural networks to improve ML performance in endovascular procedures and imaging. David is also a private life science, AI, and medtech investor, and he consults for private life science companies at the intersection of AI, venture capital and surgery/med tech.
